An outstanding Karaite scholar and active member of Community. His instructor was Aben Jasher Lutski. E. Kazas graduated from "midrash" (Karaite school) and Oriental Department of St. Petersburg University. He was a head of Alexandrov's Religious Karaite College - ARKC. Published textbooks - Deregel Galadim (textbook of the Hebrew language written in 1868-1869) and "Textbook of the Russian language for Tatar elementary schools" written in 1873-1875. He translated many books. Thanking to him contemporaries became familiar with many well-known literary works like "World Mysteries" by J. Simon which had been translated by Elia Kazas in 1899 and had been called "Kishono shel Olam". He was not only director of ARKC, but also scientific advisor of Haham S. Pampulov.
Garden flora in Bakhchi-Karai in October: Mums (Chrysanthemum), Fall Crocus, Tissues. All these flowers are dedicated to the memory of Elia Kazas - a person who linked Karaite culture with Crimean Tatar and Russian ones.
