Duvan Semen Ezra, 1870-1957

Major of Evpatoria. He was a grand son of Simon Solomon Bobovich - the first Haham of Crimean Karaites. S. Duvan transformed Evpatoria to an international resort. Founded library, theatre and many medical centers. He was also good agronomist and life stockbreeder. For his social activity he got many awards and gold box with diamants from the last Russian czar Nikolai the Second. Emigrated in 1917 with his family. Lived in France, in 1939 protected Karaites against Nazi policy. He was outstanding Karaite activist.
