Chodjash Samuil Moiseevich, 1881-1942

He and his family were killed in Evpatoria by Nazi, because Chodjash refused to collaborate with Germans. In 1904 he graduated from Novorossiski University as lawyer, got further Education in England and France. He was an outstanding representant of Karaite community in Eupatoria, protected and saved many people, including Jews, against German actions. Gestapo invited him to be the mayor of the city, but Chojash refused. He was not alone who helped people. Karaites know Alexandra and Revekka Tongur who during 2 years protected a Jewish girl against Gestapo, keeping her in a secret place. Many Karaite did it, but Chojash was the most brave and resistant, he died as a hero.
